Son of a Son of a Son of New Mexico

             Sing'en Sam Dunnahoo

This is what makes the sound... the New Mexico sound.
That deep, soulful sound some call "Blues". Take a little
country music that goes back to a time when there were
few white men in New Mexico. Add a Salsa rhythm and
you have it . . . the “New Mexico Sound”.

Sam Dunnahoo's family came here in the 1870's,
settling in southern New Mexico, starting, one of the first
businesses, "The Blacksmith Shop" in Roswell. His
great, great Grandfather, Rufus H. Dunnahoo, (which
you can do a search on line and enjoy the history) was
the first known musician in the Southern part of the
state. He played the violin while Will Lubley played a
banjo at a Christmas party which was given in John
Chisum's nine-room ranch house at the South Spring
Jinglebob Ranch.

Sam has carried on with the tradition of playing music,
but taking it a step further by composing and
developing his own distinct style as displayed on his
solo CD entitled, "Do You Hear What I Say?" It displays
the many influences he has had from "his island" as he
refers to New Mexico. "My Island" which is on his CD a
highly requested song. It also won "The Number One
Song" out of 600 entries in the New Mexico's
Sun Country Harvest in 1991.

Sammy has been many places and under many skies,
but he says that there is "nothing like a New Mexico
sky", which are lyrics he quotes in the song,
"My Island". But even with these deep roots of history
and music of New Mexico, Sammy says his real
inspiration comes from his mother Shirley Dunnahoo,
"the best damn woman I've ever known". According to
Sammy, this is where my heart, my soul, my love, my
sound comes from.

Sammy wants to bring his heart, soul, and his music, to
share his unique sound with you!
